5 Ways To Include Family in Your Elopement

Trust me, I get it. Sometimes you feel the call to an elopement deep in your soul but you still want to include your family. Believe it or not you can have both! I have tons of couples asking me this question and I’ve come up with quite a few solutions over the years. Of course, it’s always best if I know exactly what kind of day you’re dreaming up before I make suggestions, but in the meantime here are a few ways you can include your family – whether you want them physically present or not:

  1. Have your family members write letters that you read to each other during your elopement day.
  2. Include family in a ceremony and then go off for your own adventure just the two of you.
  3. Have a full elopement adventure just the two of you and then have a party for family & friends later on.
  4. Go on an easily accessible adventure so your family members can tag along.
  5. Make a whole weekend out of your elopement and spend one day with family and the other just you two.

Example Elopement Timeline Including Family:

5a – Meet at cabin and head out into Mt. Rainier national park.

6-7a – Hike to Myrtle Falls, exchange vows

7-9a – Photos on the Skyline trail

10a – Return to the cabin, eat breakfast, get ready for family ceremony

12a – Ceremony with family followed by celebratory lunch

When I'm not behind the camera, I love spending time with my dog hiking the beautiful Florida trails, out on my paddle board in our local springs, or spending quality time with my husband exploring local events. When it's been too long since my last beach day, I have cravings for that perfect mix of saltwater and ocean air.
