Adventurous Artist Point Elopement | C & J

C & J’s Mt. Baker elopement was one of those days that had everything — family, intentionality, stunning scenery, and details so personal they could only belong to this exact couple. Vows on a misty alpine mountainside with their closest people around them, lantern shots at blue hour over an alpine lake, and a second-day adventure to one of the most breathtaking fire lookouts in the North Cascades. Oh, and instead of cutting cake, they poured coffee.

The Story of C & J’s Artist Point Elopement

C & J are the kind of people who make you feel instantly at ease. They’re the owners of Soul Coffee in Jacksonville, Florida (yes, my hometown!), a coffee shop that is basically the backbone of their love story. They met through coffee. Their closest friends were made over coffee, and even the officiant was someone they met there. So when it came time to plan their elopement, it only made sense that coffee would play a starring role in their day.

When they started thinking about where they wanted to elope, C’s dad, who lives in Washington state, pointed them toward the area, and he knew exactly what he was talking about. The Heather Meadows and Artist Point area is one of those places that offers absolutely insane mountain views with very little effort required, which was perfect since they were bringing family along and didn’t want anyone to have to tackle a strenuous hike. It’s the ultimate “bang for your buck” elopement location! You just pull up, step out of the car, and be instantly floored.

Getting Ready

The morning started at their cabin, getting ready surrounded by loved ones. C slipped into her incredible gown, which beautifully showcased her tattoos. Meanwhile, J’s mom helped him into a barong tagalog, the traditional Filipino formal wear he wore to honor his heritage.

Having loved ones present set the tone for the whole day, people coming together in one of the most beautiful places on earth to celebrate two people who were made for each other.

Afterward, C & J shared a first look amongst the lush green ferns next to their cabin, and it was such a special moment to witness!

Their Artist Point Elopement Ceremony

They chose the Heather Meadows and Artist Point area of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest for their elopement day, and this area did not disappoint! This stretch of the Mt. Baker Scenic Byway (SR 542) sits at the end of the road, offering sweeping alpine views of Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan without requiring more than a short, easy walk from the parking area.

The couple had their ceremony on the alpine hillside with their loved ones gathered around them. After the ceremony, the family broke out a charcuterie spread right there on the mountainside and toasted with champagne while the peaks disappeared and reappeared behind swirling clouds.

The First Married Coffee Pour

Instead of a cake-cutting, C & J did a first-married coffee pour, which was a special nod to everything coffee has meant in their relationship and shared life. Two matching navy mugs, steam rising in the cold mountain air, both of them laughing as they poured, clinked, and took that first sip together as husband and wife. It was the most them thing they could have possibly done, and it was absolutely perfect.

Moody & Dreamy Lantern Elopement Photos

As the day wound down and the sky deepened into that perfect cobalt blue hour, we went on to take some last photos with lanterns. And they turned out gorgeous!

Day Two: Winchester Mountain Fire Lookout

If day one was about celebrating with family, day two was just for them.

The next morning, C & J laced up their hiking boots and headed to the trailhead for Winchester Mountain, which is a historic fire lookout sitting at 6,521 feet in the Mt. Baker Wilderness, just northeast of Mt. Baker. The trail is about 3.4 miles round trip with 1,300 feet of elevation gain, climbing through wildflower meadows and alpine terrain before opening up to some of the most jaw-dropping 360-degree views in the entire North Cascades. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, the Northern Pickets, and the Twin Lakes shimmering far below.

This was where C & J exchanged their private vows. After all the joy and celebration of the day before, this quiet, intimate moment was the perfect conclusion to their elopement.

Ready for Your Own Artist Point Elopement?

What I loved most about C & J’s day was how intentional every single detail was. Nothing was there just because it “should” be. That’s what an elopement can be when you let it. Not a smaller version of a wedding, but something entirely its own.

And if Artist Point, North Cascades, or Washington elopement is calling your name, I’d love to help you plan every detail — from location scouting and permits to timelines and vendor recommendations. Check out my Washington Elopement Packages and let’s start dreaming up your perfect day!
