How to Elope at a Florida Springs in 2026/2027

Imagine exchanging vows beside crystal-clear spring water, surrounded by lush jungle greenery, completely immersed in one of the most magical natural environments in the entire Southeast. That’s the kind of magic a Florida springs elopement offers, and trust me, it is so much more than you’re picturing right now. Whether you’re craving a laid-back day in nature or an epic getaway in a camper or cabin, the springs are one of the most underrated (and unforgettable) Florida elopement locations. Here’s everything you need to know to plan your perfect day.

Why Elope at a Florida Spring

When most people think of Florida elopements, they picture the beach. And while Florida’s coastline is absolutely beautiful, the springs offer something completely different, and honestly? So much more surprising to couples who have never experienced them before.

As a Florida native, I have been coming to these springs my whole life, and I truly never get tired of them. There is genuinely nothing else quite like them anywhere in the world. The water is a bright blue-green that looks unreal in photos, and the tall trees, ferns, and soft light make the place feel otherworldly.

Florida springs also offer accessibility and ease that make them ideal for elopements of all kinds. Whether you’re planning an intimate ceremony for two or bringing along a few family members, you’ll find spots that are easy to reach, beautiful without requiring a strenuous hike, and unlike anything your guests have ever seen before.

Getting There

Most couples flying into Florida for their elopement will land at Orlando International Airport (MCO), which is perfectly situated for a springs elopement. Kelly Park / Rock Springs, one of my absolute favorite elopement locations, is only about 45 minutes from the Orlando airport, making it one of the most accessible elopement locations in the state.

From Orlando, I suggest renting a car. This gives you the freedom to explore, stop at scenic spots, and keep everything you need with you. The drive takes you through small towns and the Florida countryside, which is a nice way to start your elopement day.

If you want to build in a little extra adventure before or after your ceremony, the adorable historic town of Mount Dora is just minutes from Kelly Park. It’s a cozy, walkable small town with indie boutiques, waterfront coffee shops, and antique stores that make for a perfect pre- or post-elopement wander.

Best Florida Springs Elopement Locations

There are dozens of beautiful springs scattered across Florida, but here are a few favorites for couples who want something beyond the usual beach elopement:

Kelly Park / Rock Springs: My Favorite

Kelly Park is my favorite spring of all. The water here is this jaw-dropping shade of crystal blue, and the surrounding environment is pure, lush, green jungle of towering trees and thick fern beds.

One thing I love about Kelly Park for elopements is how accessible it is. The park has paved paths, and while there are some stairs, ramps are also available. This makes it a great choice for couples with family members who need easier access.

And if you and your partner want a little adventure after your ceremony, you can head down the road  (less than five minutes away), where is a kayak and canoe launch and go explore more of Rock Springs Run. It’s a beautiful, gentle river paddle through the jungle, and it makes for the most incredible addition to your elopement day.

Ichetucknee Springs

A winding, forest-lined river that feels completely removed from the outside world. The canopy of trees arches overhead as you float or paddle through, creating this cathedral-like tunnel of green. Peaceful, unhurried, and incredibly beautiful, perfect for couples who want to feel truly lost in nature.

Weeki Wachee Springs

Weeki Wachee is where the water gets so clear and blue it almost looks Caribbean. It’s one of the best spots in Florida to kayak alongside manatees in season, which makes for the most magical elopement adventure.

Rainbow River

One of the most beautiful river paddles in Florida. The water clarity here is extraordinary! You can see straight to the sandy bottom, and the surrounding landscape is lush and wild. Perfect for couples who want to spend their elopement day on the water.

Wekiva Springs

Tucked away and wonderfully secluded-feeling despite being close to Orlando. Wekiva has a peaceful, almost secret quality that makes it a beautiful backdrop for intimate ceremonies.

Silver Springs

A more developed park with a rich history and a wild, jungle-like atmosphere. The glass-bottom boat tours here are iconic, and the ancient cypress trees draped in Spanish moss give the whole place an almost cinematic quality.

Not sure which spring is the right fit for you? That’s what I’m here for! I help couples like you navigate all the options and find the location that matches your vibe, your guests, and your vision.

Florida Springs Elopement Permits

Permit requirements vary from park to park, so it’s really important to research the specific rules for your chosen location ahead of time.

Here are a few general rules to expect when eloping at Florida springs:

  • Photography Permits: Some Florida state parks require photography permits. I handle this as part of my process, so if you book with me, you don’t have to worry about sorting this out on your own.
  • Ceremony Restrictions: Most springs parks are nature-first environments, which means large setups like arches, chairs, or décor are generally not allowed. But that’s part of what makes these elopements so beautiful!
  • Park Hours: Many springs operate during daylight hours only, so sunrise or golden hour ceremonies need to be timed carefully to fall within park hours.
  • Leave No Trace: These ecosystems are delicate and precious. No confetti, glitter, flower petals, or anything that could harm the water or the wildlife. We always treat these spaces with the respect they deserve.

For specific permit information, you can visit FloridaStateParks.org, and I’m always happy to help you navigate the details for your specific location.

Best Time of Year to Elope in Florida Springs

Florida is warm year-round, but the sweet spot for a springs elopement is November through April. Here’s why:

  • Cooler, more comfortable temperatures (think 65–75°F instead of swampy summer heat)
  • Fewer bugs
  • Smaller crowds, especially on weekdays

If you’re set on a summer elopement, it’s still possible, but just know that you’ll be dealing with Florida’s intense heat and humidity, the possibility of afternoon rainstorms, and more visitors at the popular parks.

Pro tip: Weekdays are almost always better than weekends for privacy and access at the springs.

Where to Stay

Choosing the right place to stay is a big part of your elopement experience. Staying close to your ceremony spot means less commuting and more time soaking in the experience of the day. Here are some options I love for a Florida springs elopement:

Airbnb Cabins Near Kelly Park – There are some truly wonderful Airbnb options in the Apopka and Mount Dora area.

Mount Dora Boutique Hotels – If you want a bit more charm and history, Mount Dora’s small-town inn scene is wonderful. The area has several boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts that make for a romantic and memorable stay.

Camping at the Springs – For the couples who are truly adventurous at heart, some spring parks offer camping options. Falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle and waking up steps from your ceremony location? Honestly, that’s a pretty perfect elopement.

Fun Activity Ideas

Your elopement day is about so much more than just the ceremony. It’s a celebration of your relationship, your love story, and everything that makes you two uniquely you. Here are some ideas for making your Florida springs elopement day a full, memorable adventure:

  • A slow morning at your cabin or camper, sipping coffee with your love
  • Getting ready separately or together in a peaceful, tucked-away spot
  • Kayaking together to a quiet spring for your vows
  • A simple ceremony with just the two of you—or a few guests if you choose
  • A picnic lunch, a dip in the water, or time just soaking it all in
  • Sunset portraits as the light filters through the trees
  • Playing board games together
  • Wrapping up around a campfire with s’mores (and maybe a hot tub soak too)

Getting Your Marriage License

To elope in Florida, you’ll need a Florida marriage license. Here’s what to know:

You can pick up your marriage license at any Clerk of Court office. Out-of-state residents can be issued one immediately, in-state residents have a waiting period of 3 days unless they do a premarital prep course.

In addition to both partners being present when applying for a marriage license, you will need:

  • An official ID
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Passports, naturalization, or immigration numbers (for international visitors)
  • For those who were previously married, you will need the date of divorce, annulment, or the previous spouse’s death

When eloping in Florida, who can officiate the wedding?

According to Florida law, “All regularly ordained ministers of the gospel or elders in communion with some church, or other ordained clergy, and all judicial officers, including retired judicial officers, clerks of the circuit courts, and notaries public of this state may solemnize the rights of matrimonial contract, under the regulations prescribed by law.”

Once you have your elopement ceremony and your license is signed you will need to mail back your license to the court offices within 10 days. Once they receive it they will certify it and send it back to you.
