Lake Crescent Elopement in Olympic National Park

Who says you have to choose between an adventurous elopement and celebrating with your family? Taylor and Dylan decided they wanted both, and their Lake Crescent elopement in Olympic National Park was the perfect example of how you can make that happen!

They knew they wanted to get married somewhere in Washington, surrounded by the moody forests and gorgeous scenery the Pacific Northwest is famous for. But they also wanted their family to be part of the celebration, so finding somewhere beautiful that everyone could easily access was a priority.

Enter Olympic National Park! What I love about Olympic is how much variety it packs into one place. In a single day, you can stand on a wild, driftwood-covered beach on the Pacific Coast, get married on the shore of a glacier-carved lake surrounded by old-growth forest, and end the night cooking dinner with your family at a big Airbnb in the hills. That’s exactly what Taylor and Dylan did, and it made for one of my favorite kinds of days to photograph!

Private Vows at Rialto Beach

We started Taylor and Dylan’s elopement day at Rialto Beach, one of the most iconic coastal locations in Olympic National Park. If you’ve ever dreamed of a moody PNW elopement with crashing waves, enormous driftwood logs, and fog rolling in off the Pacific, you’re going to LOVE this place.

The fog was especially thick during their morning at the beach, giving everything that misty, almost otherworldly atmosphere that makes the Washington coast so freaking beautiful. You could barely make out where the ocean ended and the sky began!

Taylor and Dylan chose to spend this part of their day together, away from the rest of their guests, exchanging private vows and exploring the beach. I absolutely love when couples make time for something like this, especially when they’re also having a ceremony with family later in the day.

After their private vows, we spent some time wandering around Rialto Beach and taking portraits along the shoreline. And yes, they even kicked off their shoes and headed into the ocean!

One thing to know about Rialto Beach is that the shoreline is covered in rocks and driftwood, so sturdy shoes are a good idea if you plan to explore. You can access the beach fairly easily from the parking area, although walking farther along the coast requires navigating uneven terrain. Keep that in mind when planning your own elopement, especially if you’re bringing guests who may have mobility limitations.

Before heading back to get ready for the afternoon, we also stopped at a drive-through espresso stand for coffee. Because honestly, is there anything more Pacific Northwest than grabbing coffee in the middle of your wedding-day adventure?!

Getting Ready + A First Look with Dad

After our morning on the coast, we took a break before meeting back up for the afternoon portion of Taylor and Dylan’s elopement.

This is one of the reasons I love split-day elopements! You don’t have to cram every single activity into one continuous stretch of photography coverage. Instead, you can plan different parts of the day around the experiences you want, with time in between to rest, change outfits, or simply enjoy a little downtime.

Taylor and Dylan had a more traditional getting-ready experience with their family and first look with dad before heading to Lake Crescent for their wedding ceremony.

A Lake Crescent Elopement Ceremony with Family

If you’ve never been to Lake Crescent, you need to add it to your Washington bucket list!

Located in the northern part of Olympic National Park, Lake Crescent is a gorgeous, glacier-carved lake surrounded by forested mountains. The water is famously clear, and the mountains rising directly from the shoreline make it one of my favorite places for an intimate ceremony in Olympic National Park.

Taylor and Dylan exchanged vows right along the shore, surrounded by their loved ones, and Taylor’s sister officiated the ceremony, which was such a sweet way to make their wedding even more personal.

I especially love that they chose this location with their family in mind. Lake Crescent has several areas where you can enjoy beautiful waterfront scenery without committing to a long, strenuous hike. For couples who want that epic Washington landscape but also want grandparents, parents, or other family members to be part of their ceremony, it’s definitely a location worth considering.

After their ceremony, we spent some time taking portraits by the lake and exploring the nearby forest. Between the enormous trees, quiet shoreline, and mountains in the background, there were so many beautiful places to photograph without needing to travel far.

Celebrating at Olympic Holiday Haus With Family

Once we finished exploring Lake Crescent, we headed back to Olympic Holiday Haus, the vacation rental Taylor and Dylan had chosen for their family celebration.

I LOVE the idea of renting a large Airbnb or vacation home for an elopement, especially when you’re inviting family. Having a comfortable home base where everyone can spend time together makes the entire experience feel so relaxed. You have room to get ready, enjoy a meal, hang out, and celebrate without needing to plan a formal reception at a traditional wedding venue.

We actually made it back to the property before the rest of their family arrived, which gave Taylor and Dylan another chance to have a little time together. They shared a private first dance outside on the lawn, with the surrounding greenery and countryside providing such a pretty backdrop. Later, once everyone had joined us, they also had their parent dances. I love that they were able to include those traditional wedding moments without feeling like they needed to follow every other wedding tradition, too.

And then came one of my favorite parts of their celebration: dinner! Taylor and Dylan’s family loves cooking and grilling, so instead of hiring a caterer or planning a formal sit-down reception, everyone pitched in to prepare the meal together. It was such a fun, laid-back way to celebrate, and I could really see how close this family was. Everyone was involved in some way, and it felt much more like a big family gathering than a traditional wedding reception.

They also had a wedding cake topped with adorable LEGO figures holding lightsabers, which I thought was such a fun little personal touch!

This is exactly the kind of thing I love seeing couples incorporate into their elopement days. If your family loves cooking together, why not make that part of your celebration? You don’t have to book a restaurant or plan an elaborate reception to have a really freaking awesome wedding day.

Kind Words from Taylor and Dylan

“We couldn’t be happier with our experience with Jessica. We had a Microwedding at Olympic National Park, a place we’d never visited before, and needed someone who knew the area well and could guide us through the process. Jessica did just that—and so much more!

From the very beginning, she was instrumental in helping us choose the perfect ceremony locations, even offering great recommendations for local vendors. It felt like she was just as invested in making our day special as we were, offering ideas and suggestions that helped us bring our vision to life.

On the big day, she was not only an amazing photographer, capturing the moments beautifully, but was also very friendly with everyone there. Her warmth, kindness, and attention to detail made everything feel so personal, and we are forever grateful for the memories she helped create and captured. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

If you’re looking for a photographer who knows the area, offers thoughtful advice, and makes you feel amazing on your special day, Jessica is your person!”

Why Choose Lake Crescent for Your Olympic National Park Elopement

Taylor and Dylan’s wedding is a great example of why I recommend Lake Crescent to couples who want to elope in Olympic National Park, particularly if they’re planning to include family.

The lake offers some of the most beautiful mountain and forest scenery in Washington, but you don’t necessarily have to hike for miles to enjoy it. There are accessible shoreline areas, nearby accommodations, and plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding forest or add other locations to your elopement day.

And if you want a little more adventure, you can easily pair Lake Crescent with a visit to the coast, just like Taylor and Dylan did!

Rialto Beach is roughly an hour’s drive from the Lake Crescent area, depending on your exact starting point, making it possible to experience two completely different landscapes in one wedding day. Just remember to leave plenty of travel time in your itinerary and account for changing weather conditions.

If you’re thinking about planning your own wedding here, I’ve put together a complete guide to eloping in Olympic National Park with more information about locations, permits, the best time of year to visit, and everything else you need to start planning.

Planning Your Own Lake Crescent Elopement?

One of my favorite things about Taylor and Dylan’s elopement is how they made room for everything that was important to them. They got their private adventure on the coast, a beautiful ceremony with family at Lake Crescent, and an evening spent cooking and celebrating together. They didn’t have to choose between having an adventurous elopement and including the people they love.

If you’re dreaming about your own Lake Crescent elopement, I’d love to help you create a day that feels just as personal!
